What is Cooperation Organization for Standards Development (COSD)?

An organization designated by the President of the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards to carry out activities such as drafting standards for the establishment/revision of industrial standards in accordance with the Industrial Standardization Act.

Major roles and functions

  • Establishment of standard development review plan (confirmation of suitability, etc.)
  • Standards (draft), commentary preparation, standards establishment, revision, and abolition work
  • Preparation of amendment according to the result of notice
  • ISO/TC215 field professional committee and technical committee operation
  • Establishing an international standardization network by collecting opinions from international voting and attending international conferences
  • Education and promotion of domestic and international standardization activities

Major contents

Promotion of national standards development for healthcare information

  • (Establishment and revision of national standards) Establishing a standard development review plan based on the standard demand survey results
  • (Standards management) Reviewing the maintenance, revision or abolishment of standards by checking standards that have been existence for more than 5 years
  • (Harmonization with international standards) Adopting international standards as national standards by adopting internationally accepted standards

    ※ 189 international standards have been published, and currently 94 have been harmonized with national standards

Organization and operation of the Health and Medical Information Technical Committee

  • Composed of less than 20 members, developing and reviewing standards

Support for the utilization of national standards

  • Hold public hearings and briefing sessions to collect opinions from stakeholders
  • Supporting for the use of various standards such as preparation of standard-related commentary and education
